Johan Gerber

Johan is a highly qualified Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) professional with 41 years of working experience in the field. He is a member of the SAINT (The South African Institute of Non-Destructive Testing) and served on the executive council as honorary Treasurer up 2018 and served as President of SAINT from 1997 to 1998.

Johan’s experience includes conducting NDT inspections on power generation plants, petrochemical plants and for various engineering manufacturers. Having started with DEKRA Industrial RSA in May 2013 when the acquisition of Raysonics was completed, Johan has successfully led the business through many strategic and operational changes and was appointed in 2021 as Managing Director.

Recent client wins include the successful completion of the Eskom nuclear shutdown project at Koeberg nuclear power station in Cape Town; as well as building on a long-standing relationship with steel supplier Arcelor Mittal; and continuing to expand DEKRA Industrial’s pan-African footprint with a great new tube inspection project in Tanzania.

In addition, 2021 has seen the attainment of the company’s Level 3 B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) accreditation, and the important positive implications this has the company in opening up future business opportunities. Furthermore, Johan and his team are incredibly proud to have achieved five million serious injury-free man hours, underlining the commitment of the team to safety being paramount on all projects and at all times. DEKRA Industrial’s Institute of Learning (IOL) has also secured several key training partnerships which will deliver thousands of new training courses to students; as well as a recent major automotive client win.

Through achievement of the above, Johan aims to deliver advanced NDT services in new and diverse markets, and to expand cross-border and offshore opportunities. He strongly believes that NDT is of the utmost importance and aims to raise awareness of safety throughout South Africa and the rest of sub-Saharan and pan-Africa.
