Dekra Industrial: ‘on the rise’ in the oil and gas sector

Dekra Industrial SA has been involved in non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection in the oil and gas sector – locally and pan-Africa - for some 5 years now, and the company continues to grow its presence in this critical area of the energy arena. This takes place against a background in which - according to global management consulting firm McKinsey in its Global Energy Perspective 2022, released in April last year - the peak in fossil-fuels demand continues to move forward, with oil projected to peak in the next 5 years, while gas remains the most resilient fossil fuel.

This trend is evident from the high level of activity off the coast Africa, for example TotalEnergies’ pivotal liquid natural gas project offshore in Northern Mozambique.

Dekra Industrial Managing Director Johan Gerber explains: “Offshore oil and gas rigs present potentially hazardous working conditions while the crew members carry out the required drilling. Rig teams are dealing with highly combustible materials, on an ocean-based platform where cranes are swinging heavy equipment overhead, and other large-scale moving parts are also a constant presence in the immediate environment.”

A first in South Africa: Dekra IOL’s virtual reality platform makes working at heights training safe and effective

After 18 months in the making, the Dekra Institute of Learning (IOL) is proud to announce that its working at heights training course on a virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) platform is live – with its PC-based 3D e-learning being a first in South Africa. This innovative course was developed and designed in partnership with software company Virtutec.

Dennis Vaden, Chief Operational Officer of Virtutec clarifies: “While there are other AR and VR training courses in existence, we believe that the programme’s ability to offer a 3D e-learning module which is PC-based for multiple corporate users is a first in South Africa – something of which we are justifiably proud! Team spirit abounds as Dekra Industrial celebrates Global Dekra Day in South Africa

Global Dekra Day was celebrated at the beginning of July in fine style locally, as Dekra Industrial employees around the country came to work, eagerly anticipating their colleagues’ cultural fashion and an assortment of delicious traditional South African dishes.

It was gratifying to know that Dekra employees and colleagues everywhere – including right here in South Africa - were watching the same pre-produced video, the Global Dekra Day Show, and then discussing it afterwards while socialising together. Above all, we took pride in embracing our country’s diverse heritage, as well as sharing what Dekra Industrial and safety means to each individual personally.”
